know (not in the bibilcal sense)

so i had a date last night. i was actually nervous, which is abnormal.

the date went pretty well. we had a good time and laughed a lot.

especially when i made a highly inappropriate, accidentally erotic remark.

we were having a lovely dinner of pho, and we were discussing places we had lived/wanted to live.

i epicly delivered, "i've only lived in dallas. i tried for about 2 solid years to get my visa, though. i really wanted to move to london. but basically you have to be independently wealthy or know people. and i have tried to KNOW lots of people."

there was a brief silence before uncontainable laughter.

"okay, that didn't come out right. i'm so embarrassed. i'm so sorry i said that."

"i'm not," date said between deep breaths.

so much for breaking the ice. i still can't believe i said that. oye.

duffy

and no, not the vampire slayer...the adorable pop badass.

when i first listened to Rockferry, i have to admit i was entirely overwhelmed.

it's absolutely clear this girl got hurt. and, just so happens she was a talented musician. dude that broke duffy's heart...you lose.

anyway, at first it was hard for me to listen to. i felt like i was in the middle of a room of a couple having a super intense fight.

she really holds nothing back.

anyway, i really like it now. her candid approach is a bit unnerving at first, but kind of addictive.

i would be a liar if i said that i couldn't relate to every song on her album. it may not be applicable to my current life, but man, i sure wish i'd had that album in the past.

Happy Bday, Ludwig!

Today, back in 1770, one of the most influential composers entered the world.

He had a tough go of it. As if living in the 1700s wasn't hard enough, he lost his hearing early on in his twenties and was thought to have bipolar disorder.

Nonetheless, his tortured soul sure produced some beautiful sound.

Needless to say, he makes me very happy.

Disturbingly Beautiful

"I can't take my eyes off of you."

How is it that every time I listen to Damien Rice, I fall in love with life a little more?

He has this haunting ability to present the truth in the form of prose in the most eloquent manner. It always amazes me at each individual's unique arrangement of the same words we use every day. Some people just do it better.

In my book, Damien is right up there with Shakespeare.

"We might make out when nobody's there
It's not that we're scared
It's just that it's delicate"

"Still a little bit of your taste in my mouth...So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannonball..."

"Cheers darlin'
Here's to you and your lover boy
Cheers darlin'
I got years to wait around for you
Cheers darlin'"

Thanks, Damien. :-)
